Stipends

Each participant will receive a stipend of $3,450. Confirmed participants will receive half of the stipend ($1,725) in June and half ($1,725) in July upon completion of the institute. Please note that this is taxable income and that the stipend is intended to offset or help with costs associated with travel, housing, and food.

Travel

The closest airports to George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus are Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Washington Reagan Airport (DCA). Shuttles are available through private companies, as are cabs.

George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus is accessible via Metro Bus and Cue Bus (Fairfax City bus). Mason is also located near the Vienna/Fairfax/GMU Metro stop, and Mason provides regular shuttles from the Metro stop to campus. Learn about shuttles and buses here.

Housing

On-campus housing is available:

All accommodations include:

• 24-hour front-desk staff
• Free shuttle service from Mason to the Vienna Metro stop
• Free shuttles to local shopping and dining. (Learn more about shuttles and buses here.)
• Furnished bedrooms, with an extra-long mattress (for a one time $30 fee, Mason can provide a linen package with a pillow, pillow case, sheet set, blanket, towel, and washcloth)
• Cable service (guests must provide a television and proper cords)
• Wireless/wired Internet access (guests must provide Ethernet cord)

Participants are also welcome to arrange for off campus accommodations in the Fairfax area.

Food

A variety of dining options are available on and off campus. Estimated cost at dining facilities: Breakfast – $10.00; Lunch – $11.50; Dinner – $12.50.

Parking

Participants who drive to George Mason University will be responsible for purchasing their own parking pass. The cost is $35 for the week.
